Hi all!
October is proving to be a busy month for the club. |
Dates for your diary:
Oct 15 - Ryde Regatta
Oct 22nd (Sunday). This is the day we have decided to hold our annual 'open/membership day". As of 1st November all members will 'expire' and before we can continue with further racing we need to get our bookwork in order. Sarah is presently organising flyers/invitations and they will be delivered shortly. The 'ID" tags are now compulsory, photos will be required with your application. I have most of your photos from last season on file, so if you are happy with last years I can reuse them again, otherwise you need to supply a new one. For new members we will have a camera on the day to take photos.
The plan for the day would be to have the usual BBQ, boat rides, cake stalls & raffles. Money raised on the day plus indiv. membership fees will go towards our boat rental $880 and the clubs renewal fee $600 = $1480 payable by 1st November. We would also like to look at purchasing our own tent for the upcoming season.
Sarah will have more information on uniform designs /colours for viewing and will be open for your comments.
Venue; The Club house, thank you to Jim & Julie for letting us use their premises for the event. More info as we get closer
We look forward to your support of our club, hope you can join us on the day
Bev & Pete

LAST WEEK OF TRAINING FOR CHINESE NEW YEAR
|
Another full boat last night - 24 paddlers, although still not the record of 26! A couple of ladies found it a bit "tight" in that dreaded back seat - thanks for being a good sport - and Robyn, how's the hair this morning?
Sunday training - normal
Tuesday & Thursday will be "rehearsal night & team seating allocation".
You will all be put into your teams - mixed or open 6.30pm start. 1st team will go out for a paddle/practice for about 1/2 hr followed by the 2nd team. There will be a little bit of waiting around for some but that will be unavoidable.
That's about it for now - see you at training

Uniform update
|
It looks like Sarah has come up with the "Ace" card & found someone who can print our logo on t-shirts for CNY.
For some months now, Sarah has been busy contacting numerous companies trying to come up with a suitable uniform with the intention that we would have one for CNY. For various reasons we haven't been 100% happy with what they had to offer and their conditions, hence we haven't proceeded with any orders.
However, she has managed to find someone who can supply & print and be available for next Saturday.
The cost is $25 and I understand will be available for pick up next Thursday.
Please Pay Sarah as she will be handling that side of things.

CHINESE NEW YEAR - SATURDAY 11TH FEBRUARY
|
Teams entered are:
1 x mixed team (50/50 male & female)
1 x open team (paddlers can be either male or female)
On my list we have the following paddlers who are now registered as part of the teams. (please advise if I have left anyone off)
Boat consists of 20 paddlers + drummer + sweep of 2 teams = 40 paddlers. We have 33 paddlers entered- tad short, so some may be required to back- up in the 2nd race.
Over the next couple of training sessions, "the Race Committee" will have the challenge of placing everyone into suitable positions in the boat so we would appreciate your patience and understanding in trying to accomodate all of you.
Tonights training session (Thurs 2nd) next Sunday & Tuesday you could say will be our last chance to get it all together. Just as important will be next Thursday 9th February where we will be having 2 sessions to accommodate everyone. Please be there at 6.30 pm
This will be a rehearsal for the 'real thing' whereby all members will be seated in their allocated seats and told of the team which they are competing in. It is important that everyone attends this evening please.

Results from Twilight paddle
|
Well, Fridays night's twilight paddle was fantastic! We didn't win of course, but it was a great experience to be able to join in with the best of paddlers and race amongst them. Initally we were a little daunted having to paddle 2km but we finished the race in a respectible time of 11.3min and we even had a little gas left in the tank afterwards. Thanks also to our sweep Ben Hadfield who brought the team home, thanks Ben. We look forward to twilight paddle No 3.
After our race, some of our paddlers were asked to join with other clubs to make up a team, this was accepted with great enthusiam. All the teams were very friendly and made Sandy Point feel very welcome.
Prizes: Sandy Point received $50 voucher for attending their 1st twilight paddle (haven't found out what we can use it for yet!)
Prizes: received 2 x bottles wine for the team who won 3rd place (some of our paddlers were in that team) (we will crack these bottles at a suitable occasion)
Special thank you to everyone who attended and participated in the evening. Our reliable support crew were at hand to cheer the Sandy Point team along and joined us afterwards in a relaxing evening along the river banks enjoying fine food & great company.
Thank you everyone
Peter & Bev |
